The club is part of the internationally recognised Kobe Osaka International school led by Sensei Tommy Morris. The club operates in Ringwood (Hampshire), Poole (Dorset),Broadstone (Dorset), and Bournemouth. We practice traditional Shito-Ryu style karate, in addition to the more modern Shukokai techniques covered by the Kobe Osaka syllabus. ********************************************************* Shito-Ryu is a broad, but distinct style of karate. It was formed initially from a combination of Shotokan and Goju-Ryu style of karate. Shotokan utilised long linear stances and physical power, where Goju-Ryu utilised up and down stances and internal breathing power, emphasising hard and soft techniques essential throughout Japanese martial arts. Shito-Ryu is powerful, but still fast and artistic. It incorporates the powerful Shuri-te katas like Naifanchin and Bassai, the hard and soft Naha-te katas like Sanchin and Kururunfa, and the artistic Chinese white crane katas like Nipaipo and Paipuren. Shito-Ryu contains all
the Shorin-Ryu katas, all the Shorei-Ryu katas, the Chinese white crane
katas, plus katas devised by Sensei Kenwa Mabuni (1889-1952) from his
broad knowledge and experience, in total, more than sixty katas.A
distinguishing feature of Shito-Ryu is that it lives together with Kobudo
(weapon arts), and sometimes Iaido (sword arts). As such Shito-Ryu can
command a life-long dedication to practice and perfect. |
